Assistant Vice Chancellor & Director of Undergraduate Admissions

John Marfield is the Assistant Vice Chancellor & Director of Undergraduate Admissions at UC Berkeley, where he leads the strategic outreach, event management, communication, and evaluation efforts for one of the largest applicant pools in the nation. John was born and raised in Los Angeles, and is honored to work with his talented admissions staff to identify future Golden Bears from his home state, across the country, and around the world. 

Prior to joining UC Berkeley, John served as the Executive Director of Admissions at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and managed the domestic admissions recruitment and outreach at the University of Southern California; having worked in the admissions profession for nearly 20 years.

John earned his Bachelor's degree in Communication from Boston University, his Master's degrees from the University of Southern California (Education) and the University of Oxford (Social Anthropology), and his Ph.D. in Education from UCLA.
